The 'HubPeople' 20 mile Road Running Race. Results: Here

Report by Christine O'Hanlon: The IOMVAC annual 20 mile road running race at the NSC perimeter was held on Sunday 8th March.   A field of 13 committed runners lined up at the start of the 40+ laps (20 miles) of the perimeter raceway.  Conditions were favourable for the runners being slightly chilly and not windy.

As the race started a front group of runners emerged comprising David Williams, Mark Burman and Paul Jennings, and they paced the initial laps together, before David Williams pulled ahead. David Williams increased his lead over the middle section of the race until he was caught by Mark Burman who accelerated over the course of the last 10 laps to create a lead of over 2 ½ mins over David Williams and win in a time of 2hrs 1min and 43s.

1st Mark Burman (2h1m43s)
2nd  David Williams (2h4m35s)
3rd Paul Jennings (2h8m11s)

In the women's race  Kathy Garrett, Jayne Farquhar and Aimee Knox, all took a turn at leading the race.  The early stages were led by Jayne Farquhar, before Aimee Knox took up her place at the front in the middle section of the race.  But it was the strong, steady and consistent pace of Kathy Garrett that triumphed and saw her finish in 4th place overall and 1st  woman across the line in a time of 2hrs 31 mins and 39 secs.

4th  (1st W) Kathy Garrett (2h31m39s)
5th (2nd W) Jayne Farquhar (2h35m37s)
6th (3rd W) Aimee Knox (2h37m14s)

A total of 11 runners completed the relentless 40+ laps, and were congratulated at the prize presentation held in the Manx Harriers Clubhouse.  IOMVAC are grateful for the support of our sponsors Hub People.  As ever events like this cannot be held without the dedicated support of our wonderful team of marshalls.  Thanks to all for a great morning of running.
