'Alan Pilling has completed the required number and range of events in this competition for fourteen of the last fifteen years (an incredible record) and was duly rewarded for his persistence by winning this time round - his first success. This was the first foray into the competition for runner-up Bethany Clague and thoughout the year her performances have shown immense improvement. Although a record 71 members scored points only Alan and Bethany put together the necessary combination of events to complete the competition and unusually it was a failure to compete in the short events which prevented quite a few from reaching the seven event requirement. Performances from the beginning of December 2007 through to the first week in November 2008 are eligible for the 2008 competition.'
